International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8th. Well to get back to a little this day occurred over a century, the first ever IWD gathering in 1911.
Gloria Steinem, world renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organisation but the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
Its a day to mark and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. What colour signifies IWD ?
Well it’s not pink. Internationally, purple is a colour for symbolising women. Historically based in UK a combination of purple, green and white symbolises women’s equality. Purple signifies justice and dignity. Green symbolises hope. White represents purity but now white is no longer used as it’s a controversial concept.
